We looked at the APIs not exposed thru the SDK and we determined that we can build stuff that will run far ahead of their strategy and be very disruptive to them, to the point where they’d pull the security excuse on us.

The funny thing is that having a full fledged browser (well, almost) on the iPhone means that Web applications can be built that will do what we want but will not disrupt Apple’s strategy.

What I’m trying to say is that Apple is basically saying: you can develop on our hardware but don’t outshine us.

And there is nothing we can do about it. It’s their hardware.

But if the DoJ gives MS a hard time about monopolistic practices with their OS then they should definitely give Apple a hard time about monopolistic practices with their hardware.

No one is forcing anyone into buying a Windows PC and no one is forcing anyone into buying an iPhone.

But why does MS get sued and forced to open up their OS while apple can keep their hardware closed thru SDK “restrictions.”

It sort of bothers me.
