The iPhone 3G gets unboxed

Within certain circles of the tech community, a product’s “unboxing” is like a rite of passage. Unboxing is a term that refers to when a product is first taken out of its retail box. It appears that we now have the first iPhone 3G unboxing pictures, compliments of Portugal.

An untrained eye might think these pictures are of the first generation of iPhone, but you’ll notice things such as the App Store button on the screen picture, the glossy black backside of the device, the slightly different side buttons — oh, and yes, the term “3G” on the side of the box.

While most of us will have to wait until Friday for the real deal, hopefully these pictures can help hold you over.

update: The Boy Genius Report has some higher-quality unboxing pictures up now.
