Zany iPhone app update: Abacus, Snow, Stock Command, Laval, BarHopper, lighter apps and Coin Flip
If you’re anything like me, the iPhone/iPod Touch 2.0.1 software update has you playing with your device even more than usual tonight. If you need some new applications, there continues to be no shortage of odd and potentially useless ones that are flowing into Apple’s mostly brilliant App Store. Here are some of the latest:
AbacusA review on its App Store page pretty much sums it up: “I don’t think many people know how to use an abacus, so maybe adding a feature that teaches how it works would be cool.”

SnowAn app that lets you “enjoy the luxury of snow.” At least the price of that “luxury” is right.
Price: Free
It’s like the classic game Missile Command except that you tap to “make trades” and stop stocks from falling and taking out your money on the ground. Yeah, it makes almost no sense.

LavalIt’s a lava lamp on your iPhone. Doooooooood.
Price: $1.99
BarHopperYou input how many drinks you’ve had in a night and it tells you your blood alcohol level and gives you an estimated time when you’ll be sober — and assigns a color to your level of sobriety. The “you input” part is only the beginning of the problem.

Fake Lighter apps
There are no shortage of apps that are simply fake lighters — you know, so you can hold them up at a concert while the band plays “Freebird.” Crazy Lighter undercuts Encore! because it’s free as opposed to 99 cents.
