BodyTrace’s bathroom scale lets you broadcast your weight to the web

bodytraceThe web is infiltrating everything. Alarm clocks, phones, and now bathroom scales. Yes, the BodyTrace eScale bathroom scale has built-in Internet connectivity so you can step on the scale and automatically broadcast your weight to the web site.

You can monitor your weight patterns by looking at the web site or look at a chart on your phone. But you can also share it with people you know. How’s that for “too much information?”

It is the brainchild of a two-man company in New York: Gyula Borbely, president of BodyTrace, and Andras Ketskes. Borbely says the goal is to inspire people to lose weight by sharing it with a community of people who will encourage them. The scale can wirelessly upload data via a GSM cell phone radio. On the web site, the company has motivational information and it encourages people to share ideas for exercise, diet, and teaming up on weight loss goals. Users can upload pictures to show their progress as well.

It costs $119 and a subscription costs $19.99 for three months. You can pre-order it now on the company’s web site. It certainly is a novelty, but it’s more evidence that the Internet can infiltrate everything. And it might just make people more inclined to lose weight.
